Message-ID: <662@hou2a.UUCP> Date: Mon, 21-Oct-85 09:14:06 EDT Article-I.D.: hou2a.662 Posted: Mon Oct 21 09:14:06 1985 Date-Received: Tue, 22-Oct-85 05:46:11 EDT Organization: AT&T Bell Labs, Holmdel NJ Lines: 21 Xref: watmath net.micro.pc:5677 net.micro.att:618 My 6300 recently went on the blink in a rather peculiar fashion. I wondering if anyone out there has had a similar experience, and direct my efforts. The machine was executing my autoexec.bat file, when all of a sudden, the speaker started to put out a high-pitched, continuous tone. I hit CNTL-ALT-DELin a hope that would solve the problem; instead, all I got (and still get) is snow on the screen. But note that the machine was presumably sane enough to recognize this sequence, since it's a software reset. Presumably something on the motherboard is hosed; it never passes the power-up. My first thought was that the ROM chip somehow broke. Is that likely??? Any thoughts would bew greatly appreciated, since turning over the machine to a repair shop is not something I particularly relish (but, does anyone have any experience with a repair shop they would like to recommend in the Holmdel - Metuchen area???)
