A slightly different solution was posted some time back. (Sorry, original
poster, I've forgotten your name.)  Using ResEdit, open a copy of MacTerminal
and find the alert that squawks about the missing ImageWriter file.
Turn off all of the staging bits.  Poof!  The alert no longer does anything.
If you try to print, you'll get a somewhat cryptic message, but it will
probably occur to you what's going on.
