I believe the film you are describing is MIRAGE.  I don't have any
sources with me but as I remember Gregory Peck finds himself walking
down the stairwell of a large building with amnesia during a power
failure.  He soon discovers the George Kennedy is trying to kill him
and is in the pay of some sort of secret society trying to change over
the world.  All Peck remembers is that he thinks he was a cost
accountant.  But the office he thinks he had does not exist and there
is only a blank wall where he thought the door was.  He goes to a
psychiatrist for help with his amnesia, but discovers that that is no
help.  He hires a priviate detective, Walter Mattheau, to help protect
him.  Eventually he discovers what went on just before his memory
blacked out and why so many people want him dead, but I don't want to
make this a spoiler.  Diane Baker and Kevin McCarthy also starred in
this black and white film.  I would guess it came out about 1964.
