I would really appreciate some sort of >discography, what the band members are doing now (or when they died...), >etc. I've never been much of a T. Rex fan myself, but I can tell you the basics: T. Rex was essentially the brainchild of Marc Bolan (nee Feld), who founded the "group" in 1967 as "Tyrannosaurus Rex". Originally an acoustic "flower power" duo (Bolan and partner Mickey Finn), they shortened their name around 1969, adding additional members and "going electric". Finn left around this time and was replaced by Steve Took. Bolan/T. Rex were tremendously popular in the UK during the "glitter era" of the early 70's, although they were never especially successful stateside. "Bang A Gong" was their only real hit in the US. Bolan died in a car crash around 1977; I believe Took died shortly thereafter. A lengthy article (including discography) about Bolan/T. Rex appeared in Goldmine some time ago. Send a USnail address if you'd like a copy. AWR (Official Rock Archivist of USENET?) PS: Bolan was reputedly the real author of Ringo Starr's "Back Off Boogaloo".
