the $22.50 book of the month club version is of course
in two volumes and comes complete with a drawer for the
magnifying glass - though perhaps a volume control would
be more appropriate for the music.

you can get the entire previous edition for less than 
the new individual biographies (taken together) - a much
better deal.

For those of you who might be interested in documentary
biographies, the three volumes by Otto Erich Deutsch
on Handel, Mozart and Schubert are super - extracts from
letters, journals, newspapers, etc provide a wealth of
material on the composer, compositions, the mileau, etc.
