I purchased some decorative stone (about 3/4 inch pieces) from my local garden center (1 pail cost me $1). Then I remove enough soil from each plant's pot surface to allow a solid layer of stone. My kitten soon lost all interest in digging in the rocks ( I occassionally find 1 or 2 pieces on the floor, but it beats entire plants and their soil).Best of all, the plants look really nice ( I used clay-colored stones ) and my friends no longer have to ask me about aluminum foil or screening on my plants!
