When I lived in the NYC area we had a saying: the weather is always nice on the high holidays. Now I'm in the LA metro area. The same phenomenon seems to hold true, except it is harder to tell since the LA weather is more stable. However, some of the "long distance to shul" walkers are of the firm opinion that the incidence of rain is less on the Shabbos than any other day. Could be psychological, could be true. As someone of a scientific bent, it has aroused my curiousity. If someone has access to a weather database for a city of a large Jewish population (e.g., NYC, LA) and a little time, I would appreciate it if they could find out the number of rain days for each day of the week over a period of one or more years. This should be the simplest statistically acceptable means of answering this question. (Statisticians--OK?). If someone in the position to do this doesn't have the day of the week algorithm, please send me mail & I'll look it up. I think the answer should be posted to the net since it would be of general interest. Thanks in advance. (P.S., When it comes to keeping Kosher, should one go whole-hog? :-) -- -_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_- Paul Blumstein "Violence is the last refuge of the Citicorp/TTI incompetent" -- Salvadore Hardin 3100 Ocean Park Blvd. from Issac Asimov's Foundation Santa Monica, CA 90405 (213) 450-9111 {philabs, randvax, trwrb, vortex}!ttidca!paulb
