It was pretty traumatic being off the net, but I ripped up my roots and moved to DC. Things are going well now, except I could use a few good hugs. Sigh... The singles scene is very different here from Columbus. Interracial couples are common. Many of the non-whites|blacks|hispanics students are not first generation. They are fully Americanized, quite unlike the international students at OSU (and no doubt elsewhere) who are more ethnic. In some ways the international's cultural contributions are more exciting, even though the gap between cultures may be broader. But to see people of many different races mixing readily within the same culture, reading the same newspapers, making music together at Dupont Circle, speaking the same idioms and smooching in the park--these things too are exciting. There's also a really good chocolate store in Georgetown, and all things considered, I'm home.
