Message-ID: <2035@reed.UUCP> Date: Tue, 22-Oct-85 19:26:22 EDT Article-I.D.: reed.2035 Posted: Tue Oct 22 19:26:22 1985 Date-Received: Thu, 24-Oct-85 07:17:50 EDT Organization: Reed College, Portland, Oregon Lines: 42 Well gang, it took a bit longer than I thought, but I finally got around to naming the little guy. I got an incredible amount of names, and what with classwork and all, it took me a little while to sort through them all and decide on which one I liked the best. Since no one told me that they really wanted to see a list of the names that people sent in posted, and since it is a considerable list, if anyone really wants to see them, say if you have a pet that you need names for, let me know and I can send it to you, but it won't include who chose what names. As to people who replied to the net rather than to me, someone was pulling those off and sending them to me, so I probably saw those as well. A couple of more things, before we get to the big moment. Several people sent in the names Frank, Frank Burns, Major Burns or some variation there of. And to those who wondered, yes I did understand the connection between Major Frank Burns and a ferret. I also got some other repeated names like Garret, Rikki-Tikki-Tavi (although all the people who sent me that one gave me variations of spelling), Snake, Sebastion, and a few others. All of the names were interesting, some were extremely cute, and there were some that I liked an awful lot (Veloso Alucard for instance) but just didn't seem appropriate for a ferret. In all I got 114 names (not including repeats.) One last thing, to those people who questioned why I wasn't dealing with the net any longer, there are a variety of reasons, the predominant one being a lack of time. And to those who expressed regret at my leaving, I thank you. Now to the big moment. The name that I chose for my ferret, who up to this point has been called T.F. (for "The Ferret") is Faustus. I shorten that to Faust when I'm angry. This came from elf@cylixd who did not sign the letter so I really don't know who s/he is. Someone, I don't remember who, suggested that for a prize the person get a picture of the ferret, which is fine by me. So, elf, if you're out there and would like to claim this prize, which you so rightly deserve, then just e-mail me your real address, and I'll send you one as soon as possible. Thank you all for your entries. I'll keep the list around just in case I get another pet. It has certainly made for some interesting reading. cheers - elizabeth g. purtell (Lady Godiva)
