It's Friday, October 4, 1985 and the Yankees are on their way to
Toronto for the final three (scheduled) games of the season. Monday's
game with Detroit back at the Stadium is only a reality if they can
sweep the Blue Jays this weekend. The end of the season is upon us
baseball fans with the playoffs and World Series to follow. 

The issue now is not whether fans did or will boo a nation's anthem,
but whether the Blue Jays can win one game or the Yankees can sweep
three.

The issue now is not whether Mattingly or some other Yankee or Blue
Jay (or other AL player) will win the AL MVP, but whether Mattingly
(with sore ankle) can spark his team to three victories or can Bell
push his team over the top with at least one win.

The issue now is not who broke Billy Martin's arm or how or where it
was done, but whether Whitson can restrain the Jays while the Yankee
bats attempt to make their season last at least one more day.

The issue now is baseball for me and for all of the other fans waiting
excitedly to view the games from Toronto this weekend one at a time.
If the Blue Jays win one the Yankee season is over, but baseball will
continue on into the second season. Oh! the excitement of a Barfield
homerun. Jeez! I don't believe Winfield caught that ball and then threw
out Fernandez trying to score from third. Boy! what a great catch
by Bell. Holy Cow! Mattingly does it again! Amazing! I didn't think
Cowley or Alexander had it in them to stage such a great pitching duel!
All the ingredients of the Bells, the Mattingly's, the Barfields, the
Winfields, the Moseby's, and the like are there. When the anthems have 
been played I really don't care if some idiot wants to boo it's: PLAY BALL!
(WHOOOOSH! - Was that the Enterprise? No! Henderson just stole second again!

I thank Peter Ueberoth (or whoever responsible) for ending the baseball strike. 
I got my wish to see the Yankees chase the Blue Jays down the stretch for
the AL Eastern Division Title. We all saw Pete catch and pass Ty, but
boy would I love to see Phil pitch on Sunday for 300 with the Eastern
title still on the line.

Although Yogi won't be in the dugout, his spirit for the game will be 
there for: "it ain't over 'til it's over!"

Schedule for Monday (if necessary) Baltimore vs. Toronto, Detroit vs. New York.
