Quite simply the Celtics have always chosen the best players available to them. Their record bears out the success of that approach. Just for the record: Bird -- More than half the teams passed him up (around the 20th pick in 1978). McHale -- Two teams passed him up (Would Golden State trade Joe Barry Carrol for Parish and McHale?). Ainge -- All teams passed him up and some passed him up twice. Wedman -- Obtained from Cleveland for Darren (we hardly knew you) Tillis (Would Cleveland trade Tillis for Wedman now?) Sichting -- Obtained from Indiana for Quinn Buckner. Walton -- Obtained from L.A. Clippers for Maxwell. Carlise -- All teams passed him atleast twice. Kite -- need we say more Gil De Bartolo
