I've heard of a program called 'chips' that accepts the
Vax 780 memory soft ecc error info and board type to
tell which chip on the board is causing the problem.
I was told that it was written by Ed Gould.  I much prefer
this method to the vax/machdep.c code used for the MS780C
Trendata memory boards.  Does someone
have a copy of this program they could mail me?  Thanks,
