Sender:francis bell Xpath: kcl-cs neon I would be interested to know if this is the only college running a course on Hofstadter's fascinating book, Godel,Escher,Bach:an Eternal Golden Braid. Here at Westfield we are in the middle of a 10-week course on the book. This is organised by the Computer Science Dept, but closely follows the material in the book and therefore involves listening to Bach, studying pc and TNT as well as the more conventional discussions on Programmability. The course therefore comes close to being interdisciplinary, and the number of students attending seems to indicate that this approach is welcomed by a particular type of student who wishes to gain a broad overview of CS and related issues such as machine intelligence. I would be interested to see postings from anyone else who has heard of ,or attended such a course. In particular I would like to know what Dr. Hofstadter has to say about it ; are you out there ,Dr Hofstadter ? If anyone on the net shows interest I'll post a more detailed article describing exactly what the course is like. -- ---francis King's College London Department of Computing.
