I agree.  net.os should be a class of newsgroups, as in
	net.os.unix
	net.os.unix-wizards
	net.os.os9
perhaps even
	net.os.vms
since the "vax" news groups tend to look like this.

If we have a hierarchy of net.micro.*, why not operating systems?
