In a couple of months I will be travelling to Europe (Italy,
Switzerland and possibly Austria & France).

I plan on renting a car while there.  Do I need to get a special
"International License" to drive there?  Or is my standard issue
NY state Class *5* acceptable?  Or what?

Since this is probably of interest to others, I will post a summary
of responses that are E-mailed to me.
