NEWS FLASH *** NEWS FLASH *** NEWS FLASH *** NEWS FLASH *** NEWS FLASH *** The University of Maryland, on November 20, 1985 the Royal Maryland Monarchist Party was swept into office as the new Executive Council of the Student Government Association of the University of Markland His Highness King Tom II has announced the coronation festivities to commence December 3 on the grounds of the College park Campus. Also swept into office were Lord High Chancellor Duke Sir Paul, Her Majesty Queen Virginia, and Chancellor of the Exchequer James. The first item on the agenda, according to King Tom, is to build a beer filled moat around campus. According to University officials, this proposal is under consideration - but unlikely since the drinking age in Maryland is 21, and it would be impossible to control access to the moat - which is to be filled with 28 different brands of lager and stout ale, to be seperated by a system of locks. 27 of these brands are to be imported from the Old Country, while the 28th is to be a domestic brand, Knoxbrau, from the King's private brewery. Each of the officers was elected into office by 54 percent of the voting student population, with the exception of the King, who recieved 56 percent of the vote. The oldest continuous political party on campus, the Monarchists have participated in no fewer than 13 SGA elections, but until recently, they were unable to capture any significant percentage of the vote. After winning a 20% block last semester, the party changed their campaigning tactics this semester, abolishing the under $20 budget of previous campaigns and replacing it with a zero-budget strategy. more to follow...
