It has both a moisture control (how much it puts out at one time) and a humidistat (total moisture in the air). It is *very* quiet - hums softly and occasionally gurgles. It is much, much quieter than the cheap motorized "mister" we were previously using. I have been using it for two weeks and am quite pleased with it. We'll see how it holds up over time. (ps. this model is made in Japan) -- jcpatilla Mountain View is paid a diplomatic visit by giant Lunar reptiles that want our hot tubs but can't find any so they leave.
