It's part of the basic design. The modems are HALF-DUPLEX 9600 bps modems (in effect). They have some buffering on both ends, but it takes a substantial period of time (something like a second) to do a turnaround. I have one of those modems here that I'm experimenting with--more details when I have more to report. --Lauren--
