How about a net.jokes.newuser or net.jokes.canonical or something like
that?  It could be run along the lines of net.announce.newuser, where
the canonical postings are maintained by various people (e.g. Peter da
Silva has volunteered to take care of light bulb jokes) and reposted
every once in a while.  It would save some nuisance on net.jokes but
also provide a definite place where new users can be sent to sate
themselves on old material.
