No it doesn't.  I have Thunderscan and was considering buying an
Imagewriter II so I checked it out on a friend's new printer.  Thunderscan
needs to have its cable come out the front of the printer so that it is
free to scan across the page without getting tangled.  This is impossible
with the new Imagewriter because the top doesn't lift off like the old
one's did.  The Thunderscan cartridge does clip into the Imagewriter II,
but the cable that exits the back of the cartridge jams against the case of
the Imagewriter and isn't free to move.  My guess is that the Thunderscan 
people will redesign their cartridge so that it can be used on the new 
printers but I haven't heard any rumors to that affect yet.
