The JX-3P was one of the first synthesizers to incorporate MIDI built in to the synthesizer and as such has some severe limitations. One such limitation is the inability to respond to a single channel. The original unit was designed with OMNI mode permanently on! What this means is that the JX-3P will always respond to all 16 channels. However it will only transmit on channel 1. Enter the JX-3P upgrade PROM. With this new chip installed, your JX-3P can be made to respond to only channel 3. Selecting this option however disables the keyboard and you can only control the JX-3P as a slave. Power cycling will cause it to return to normal OMNI mode. The PROM is (or was) available direct from ROLAND at about $50. As the JX-3P is not produced any more, I'm not sure if the still have the PROM for it. -mike -- Mike !ihnp4!ihlpm!michael1
