    	    The following appeared in the 22-Nov-85 issue of the 
    Boston Globe:
    
    	    INDIA: CARGO BLAST CAUSED AIR CRASH
    
    New Delhi - India's director of air safety said an explosion 
    in the cargo hold apparently caused the crash of an Air-India 
    jumbo jet last june in which all 329 persons aboard were 
    killed, according to his report obtained yesterday. The 
    report bu Hoshiar Singh Khola said the conclusion was based 
    on analysis of the cockpit voice recorder and the air control 
    tower tapes at Shannon, Ireland. Meanwhile, the Toronto Globe 
    and Mail reported yesterday that Canadian police believe 
    Indian government agents may have been responsible for the 
    Air-India explosion as well as a bomb concealed in luggage 
    that exploded in Tokyo. (AP)

    	    The latter part of the report, if true, is shocking.

    	    There was another article on India in the Boston Globe 
    (25-Nov-85) titled WARMING OF US TIES WITH INDIA IN DOUBT.
    
    	    The article basically states that the early expectations 
    of substantive improvement in US-Indian relations are in 
    doubt after a recent spate of anti-US remarks made by Prime 
    Minister Rajiv Gandhi. "The honeymoon with the West is 
    fizzling out" states another part of the article. What the 
    article doesn't focus on is whether the anti-US statements 
    are justified or not!
    
    	    I thought that Rajiv did an excellent job of dealing 
    with the western press etc. when he was here to meet Reagan 
    in the early part of the year. Unlike his mother he came 
    across as articulate, objective and not too overly pro-USSR.
    I disagree with someone else on the network who suggested 
    that Rajiv is "just more of the same". I think there are 
    substantial fundamental differences ( mostly plusses ) 
    between him and his mother ( even though I don't quite agree 
    with his handling of the Punjab situation). Let's hope for 
    the best!
