They ran the only minority candidate during (I believe) my junior year. At the presidential debates people kept asking him why he dressed like a viking warlord when he was, in fact, black. Something about historical accuracy... I believe he had some story about black Irishmen or something... The Monarchist party really only had one serious plank and that was a system whereby the student activities fees would partly be distributed on the basis of number people who checked-off on a form which clubs and organizations that they thought should get their money. (The Monarchists called this the "Chekhov System" but its the same thing.) Thus each check mark that a person puts down is worth a certain amount of money. The system was partially tried one year. The forms were given out and collected but the Student Gov. decided not to give out any money. Never the less, the results of the tally were interesting. Most clubs didn't even have a tiny fraction of the 30K students as their members but many people checked-off clubs that they weren't members of. For example, the Science Fiction Club was in line to get their budget quadrupled by this procedure. Presumably, all the SF reader gave them a check. A bad part of this whole procedure was that some clubs started advertising for votes. The Comic Book Club was particularly bad. -- TCP/IP: lee@rochester.arpa UUCP: {seismo, allegra, decvax, cmcl2, topaz, harvard}!rochester!lee XNS: Lee Moore:CS:Univ Rochester Phone: +1 (716) 275-7747, -5671 Physical: 43 01' 40'' N, 77 37' 49'' W
