Hitler rose to power through popular means and eventually through deceit. This is all too common in countries where personality politics become more important than democratic principals. The unwaivering adherence to the Presidents views, without the tolerence and the willingness of allowing dissenting views is indicative of such a culture. Red Baiting, that is, claiming that all pro-freeze, anti-defense-growth groups are funded by the U.S.S.R, is, in my mind, an example of that introlerence. These groups provide the moderating & governing forces that have stopped the U.S. (and other countries) from going off and doing some really silly things.
