The lie that women are by nature emotional and illogical has led to much unfairness in the working world. Back when I was a grad student in environmental sciences, I took an advanced seminar in meteorology from a woman who practically singlehandedly created the field of cloud physics back in the 1950s. Her advisor was a famous meteorologist. When she went in to talk to him about her proposed dissertation topic, she told him she was interested in creating a mathematical model of cumulus cloud physics (something no one else had attempted: she solved the equations iteratively on a desk calculator). He told her that that was a good topic for a 'girl' since it wasn't very important and there weren't any 'men' working on it she'd have to compete against. Anyone who claims not to have known "logical" and "unemotional" women or "illogical" and "emotional" men is too young to know better, a blatant sexist, or both. This difference between the sexes is an illusion created by the tendency of women to be more open in expressing their emotions than men. Men are JUST as emotional as women: they just tend to be hung up about letting their emotions show. -- Cheers, Bill Ingogly
