Cup trophy was renamed the Jules Rimet Cup in 1946 in his honour. - 5 host nations have won the tournament (Uruguay 1930, Italy 1934, England 1966, West Germany 1974, Argentina 1978); 2 have come in second (Brazil 1950, Sweden 1958); 1 came in third (Chile 1962); 2 made it to the quarterfinals (Switzerland 1954, Mexico 1970). - Only one country (Brazil 1958) won a World Cup outside its continent. - Only one country (Brazil) has been in all World Cup final rounds. - By 1978 FIFA membership (146 nations) had exceeded UN membership. - The 1982 World Cup final was viewed by over 2 billion people.
