A reading of the football net reveals a number of people posting their weekly
predictions for a number of college games and/or all the pro games, including
the point spread.  Now I'm sure that some people will offer all sorts of
creative alternate explanations, but the point spread is used strictly for
gambling purposes.  Thus, the net is in the position of fomenting gambling.
It's my opinion that there's entirely too much fomenting going on in this
country.     8-} for the entire preceding paragraph.

Seriously, though, what is the purpose of these postings, other than a public
ego contest between those involved?

Don't most people who give a damn about point spreads feel that they can do
their own handicapping?  Is this info. on the net contributing anything to
anyone besides the posters?

Taken in context with the discussions on net.news about cut-backs to the net
because of the low signal-to-noise ratio on so many bulletin boards, wouldn't
a little conservation be in order?
