Hyphenation -- as the stylebook of the Oxford University Press says,
"If you take the hyphen seriously you will surely go mad."  (I'm sure
everyone has seen that quote.)  My rule is to to use a hyphen if leaving it
out would confuse the reader or offend his sensibilities.
