I've used an editor that carries the WYSIWYG concept to extremes:
it won't let you get anything you can't see.  Thus, since the
screen is 80 characters wide (on this particular machine),
the editor won't handle lines longer than 80 characters.
Instead, it silently truncates them, both on-screen and off.

Once you get used to that, it's fine.
