These are professional BETA-I decks which use standard BETA tapes but record and play back at twice the tape speed of consumer (BETA-II) gear. They are NOT compatible with prerecorded consumer tapes. The SLO-383 provides: -Frame by frame editing capability -two channel audio with full independent dubbing -BETASCAN variable speed search -full solenoid controls The RX-353 adds: -marking and selectable playback of up to 63 independent tape segments -eight-event timed record or playback of any segment -full-function wired remote control These units are clean and in working order. They date from approx. 1981. The SLO-383 deck was still being sold by Sony into 1985, however, and retail price (as of 12/84) was $2300 (plus about $300 for the RX-353). Two 383's plus an editing controller (about $400) can do professional video production. The 323 will not do editing, but will record and playback BETA-I and can be programmed with the RX-353.
