Deadlines are 6 January except for Boston, which is 10 January, for turning signatures in to registrars or election commisioners.) While collecting signatures to place repeal of the cumpulsory seat belt law here in Massachusetts (in the #@*! cold) onto the ballot, I ran into several people who said they were in favor of the law. Of some of them I asked, "In favor of encouraging them to wear seat belts or compelling them?" Most said "Encouraging them", and one said, "Wearing them." That is, they were either too stupid or too cowardly to admit that by advocating the law they were advocating compulsion. A separate conversation went something like: Passer-by: I just started wearing my seat belt to get used to it before they start enforcing it. I thing the law is a good thing. Me: Didn't you think wearing it was a good thing before? P: Yes. M: Then why didn't you wear it? P (sheepishly): Well, you know, people sometimes need a little push to do what's good for them. At least the fuzzyhead was (apparently) honest. Hail, Caesar! David Hudson
