On the other hand, why should one rely on the remote system hanging up? The 
L.sys file allows all sorts of peculiar input before establishing a connection
but there is no facility for specifying a termination sequence. Since uucico
knows that it is done with a connection an originating modem should be able to
hang up under control of the L.sys information. Perhaps someone has fixed this
oversight?
