I bought my Panasonic ultrasonic humidifier on sale here in NJ for $70 at TOPS appliances. I think places like Consumer's Distributing, or Service Merchandise have similar devices at similar prices. It is very quiet. It makes a slight hissing sound because a fan is used to blow air through the unit. On the positive side, it has a filter on the fan, so it catches some dust. It has a humidity control, and automatically shuts off when empty. Now the bad news - if you have hard water, the minerals will settle out as a white dust. And that dust goes everywhere. That is why I am not using mine until I decide on a solution. There are filters you can place in the tank to absorb the minerals. I wonder if the kitchen sink Water-pick filter will do equally well?
