While I'm asking questions, is there a flag that you can set to
eliminate messages in Gnuemacs like 
	"Loading /usr2/brain/michaelm/nlsystems/phil/rules/collect.el...", 
	"File is write protected" 
etc.?  I'm running batch mode, using emacs like a Lispified grep, so
these messages just get in the way...
