A spokesman said that people need not worry about the carcinogenic effects of the substance unless they swallow small quantities of it over a long period of time. In a related story, the Environmental Protection Agency has initiated a billion-dollar research project studying the toxic effects of hydrogen oxide (H2O), a chemical which is believed to be contaminating some of our lakes, rivers, and streams. Preliminary results indicate that it is most toxic when ingested into the lungs. This just in: The FDA has announced that, when the EPA study is done a few weeks from now, it will research the possibility that hydrogen oxide is behind the carcinogenic effects of saliva.
