     My wife does Unix support and programming (for another company)
and knew the local data switch was down.  She called the switch support
people and asked them what she should tell her users.

     "Tell them we had a fire."

     "What?"

     "A fan failed, and one of the chips burned out."

     So she called one of her users and said, "Look, we had a very small
fire.  Nothing big, smaller than what you might have in a toaster,
nothing life threatening, but we don't know when we'll be back up."

     Twenty minutes later, her department's secretary got a call from a
VP's secretary:  "I hear your building's on fire.  I've got a printout
due in an hour; what are you going to do about it??"
