  A Shaggy Dog Story

  Long ago, In storyland, there was a small kingdom called
Mundorf.  For many years, the citizens were content with this
name, and had no reason or desire to change it.  During a time of
strife, when a neighboring country attacked the borders of
Mundorf, a HERO arose who triumphed over the enemy, and restored
peace to the land.  The hero, one Nathaniel Tridd, was praised
throughout the land: indeed, so great was the praise, that by
popular demand the kingdom was renamed Triddia, and the populace
were proud to be called Tridds.  Nathan was proclaimed king, and
ruled wisely over the land, until a stroke cut short his
illustrious career... HOWEVER, this is not his story, so onward.

  A few decades after the demise of Nathan, a Rabbi visited the
land of Triddia.  As the local Rabbi had passed away recently,
and there was none to take his place, the people asked the
visiting Rabbi to remain.  After much soul searching, and finding
that there was a local branch of his bank in the capitol of
Triddia, he agreed to stay, and lead the Synagouge (?).

  The years passed by, and Jacob (the Rabbi) served the community
wisely.  Soon his council was sought not only in religious
matters, but in business and political matters as well.  His name
spread throughout the land of Triddia, and the Tridds from far
and wide would come for help in important matters.  One day, he
had a visit from the mayor of a small town in a distant county of
Triddia.

  "How may I help your Honor?" said Jacob.
  " O great and wise Rabbi Jacob, our small town is beset by a
terrible problem. A few years after the death of King Nathan, a
Troll moved into our county.  At first, he interfered little with
the people, but as the news of the King Nathan's death spread,
and none would face the troll, he grew bolder in his demands.  He
now asks that the town elders walk to his cave on the mountain
each day, whereupon he kicks them down the mountainside!
Needless to say, this has demoralized our town, as well as making
the position of town elder less than lucrative."

  Rabbi Jacob was deeply moved. "I will come to your town, and
perhaps we will find a solution to the troll!"

  To make an overly long story merely long, Jacob accompanies the
Mayor to his town, and witnesses the troll in action, kicking the
Tridds off the mountain.  All manner of suggestions are made, but
none prevail; the troll is either deaf, stupid, or very
insensitive to the plight of the Tridds.  Finally, Jacob
approaches the troll, expecting a rapid vertical descent.  

  To the Rabbis' amazement, the troll completely ignores him,
instead grabbing a few townspeople who accompanied Jacob and
punting them off the face of the mountain.  Jacob is incensed
with this action and addresses the troll: "Hey, troll!  For why
do you kick these Tridds off the mountain, and not kick me off,
eh?"

  The troll looks at the Rabbi and says

"Silly Rabbi, Kicks Are For Tridds!"

(Great, huh?  HEY YOU..WAKE UP, THE JOKES OVER)
