From the Language Reference Manual for the IBM C Compiler, page 1-22:

A few functions in the large model library use argument
arithmetic compatible with huge items (note that huge
model programs link with large model libraries by
default). The following functions can be called with a
*huge* address:

      freud

      fwrite

      bsearch

      qsort
