Message-ID: <741@hou2g.UUCP> Date: Thu, 26-Dec-85 11:52:32 EST Article-I.D.: hou2g.741 Posted: Thu Dec 26 11:52:32 1985 Date-Received: Sat, 28-Dec-85 00:47:16 EST Organization: AT&T Bell Labs, Holmdel NJ Lines: 16 .. A friend of mine would like to expand the memory on his Compaq portable using 256K chips. He has been told that he needs a new decoder PROM and possibly some special tool. Questions: 1) Is there anything more to the job than simple chip extraction and insertion? 2) Is the speed of the chips critical? I assume 150 is fine. 3) Where is a good place to get the memory chips AND the decoder PROM(s?) AND (if necessary) any special tools? 4) Any tips on how to make the job easier and/or less prone to error? Any and all help greatly appreciated. Rob Hausman hou2g!1711reh
