The disk-validator when loading info from the disk, validating and such, checks all of the file dates, and, if one of the files happens to have been created at a date/time later then the current date/time then the system date/time is modified to reflect this new time. This is admittedly a handy dandy thing when you boot your system, however, everytime you load a disk this little procedure is carried out for you, and without warning or mention, the system date/time can change under your feet. Now, as long as all your files have nice proper date/time stamps on them, things work out wonderfully. Personally, I wasn't so lucky. Somehow the date "Thursday 24-Oct-75" got associated with one of my files. Figuring that this was refering to 1975 I never really worried, I'd reset the date/time to be current and off I'd go.. Well, unluckily this date was refering to 2075 apparently, and quickly I propagated this date throughout most of my file structure. I thought "arg, I guess I'll just set the date and copy one disk to another". In general this works, but, you should note that if you need to pull out one disk and put in another disk (to do the copy), then the second disk had better have valid dates on it, since the disk validator may run and reset the date back into future (I just set the date, format the disk, put the disk with future dates into df1:, check/set the date/time, then do the copy). Amiga: Perhaps when the disk-validator is checking a disk other than the system disk and it finds a future-dated file, it could request wether to go ahead and change the date/time ? Cheers all... Oh if I only knew how to talk in/out of my serial port... If anyone has some code for that, PLEASE (pretty please) Send me a copy, and I'll forever be thankfull.... Joe Meadows (never having much used unix, if someone could send me mail saying this posting actually worked, I'd feel more comfortable... and while I'm asking for things, if there are any Amiga related mailing lists, user groups, etc.. Please, let me know!!!!) Sorry to be longwinded. Cheers .
