OSS used to distribute a bunch of routines on a separate disc
called a 'programmers library' or something along those lines 
(NOT to be confused with the run-time library) that contained 
various useful routines like character manipulation/transalation
stuff, routines for PM graphics, and also had the floating point 
functions; most of the stuff would pop in as in-line ML code, though
all the use had to do was include the code and call it like a
regular function.  The name of the disc was later changed to the
'Action toolkit', and it can be obtained from OSS or picked up
somewhere for $15 or so.  Its definitely worth the money.
