I can tell you that, as a former high-strung prima donna myself. Most of the coin-op development (the only part of Atari still owned by Warner Communications, last I heard) is done on Vaxen under VMS, using old cross-assemblers written in 11 code, which run in 11 emulation mode, and run very slowly. Doing real work on the Vaxen takes a certain stamina, not to mention tolerance for teeth-gnashing.
