This is told to me over the phone by someone who claimed to have a sheet of paper in front of him from Apple. This was a description to developers of the machine that will be announced in January. -------------------- begin rumour -------------------------- The code name of the machine is "Rocky". There is no mention of what it will be called when released. Features: o 800k drives o 1 Meg, expandable to 4 Meg when 1 Meg chips available o HFS in rom o SCSI o Looks like standard Mac except that the back is a little longer, and the keyboard a little different The new roms are about 50% faster, with major improvements in quickdraw and the resource manager ( this matches what Andy Hertzfeld said in his MAUG(tm) conference ). The fellow who told me this had details of the form "doing xxx in quickdraw from a yyy to a zzz is n% faster", but I didn't write these down. ---------------------- end rumour ------------------------------ There is no mention of an upgrade policy, but he has heard from a seperate source that to go from normal 512k Mac to Rocky is $~1000. He also said the new roms are named Laurel and Hardy ( for Low and High ), but this sounds more like the sort of thing Amiga would do! :-) -- Tim Smith sdcrdcf!ism780c!tim || ima!ism780!tim || ihnp4!cithep!tim
