While Brandauer's not without honor slime ball steals almost all the scenes he is in, Streep carries much more of the movie and is terriffic. I also neglected to mention the uniformly high quality of the supporting performances. Redford's most glaring problem is that he sounds like an American, not like Denys Finch-Hatten. The actor playing Barkley Cole tends to overshadow him in the early scenes together and suggest more romantic possibilities. The movie holds up a second time, but is too long.
