Bread for the World reports: "In the Horn of Africa, war is the primary cause of the Ethiopian famine." "When the Soviet Union sided with the Ethiopian government in 1977, the United States moved into former Somalian military bases..." "Meanwhile, U.S. and Soviet arms shipments grow. U.S. aid to Somalia, Sudan, and Kenya has risen from $57 million in 1981 to $135 million for 1985. What U.S. and Soviet powers call a balance of power is only a balance of misery for the regions 70 million people." And then we follow up with $800 million in food aid to help relieve some of the misery we are contributing to. Gee, aren't we benevolent. Randy Stimpson
