The purpose of this mail is to see if there is interest in the following
project, and to obtain some general comments from the railfan public.


I propose that a non-profit organization be established.  The goal of this
organization will be:

  1) To keep and preserve information on all transportation carriers, and
     related organizations, including Rail, Air, Sea, Surface (Bus), and
     Municipal organizations;

  2) To publish various books related to same, at a price that is affordable to
     all;

  3) To publish a monthly newsletter, keeping members up to date on all trans-
     portation carriers included above;

  4) To establish a world-wide network for the gathering of such information;

  5) To establish a library for the preservation of this information.

** Note:  Other goals may be added.


I have 5 people lined up locally to start this project.  Our initial thought is
that $25 would be an acceptable fee, given that there will be a monthly news-
letter, and that we will be providing for some books at a very low price to our
membership.  These items will NOT be sold over-the-counter, only through mem-
berships.

Our plans call for the computerization of this information on an IBM/PC or a
TRS-80 Model II.
