i was afraid they would do that.  i guess it's inevitable, though,
considering.  longyear should never have sold hollywood the rights
to the story, for which he won a hugo (and possibly nebula?  i
can't remember).  one of the things i liked best about the story
was the lack of melodrama and coincidence.  looks like that's all
that hollywood left in ...
