I am not my sister's keeper, but neither can I stand idly by and watch
someone I care about make a mess of their lives.
Friend to me is someone whose thoughts I know.

A good friend is someone whose FEELINGS I know.
This means that if I know they are feeling painful feelings, and I have
had similar experiences with the situation evoking those feelings, well
I try to help them by sharing my own responses to the situation, and
suggest alternative ways of dealing CREATIVELY with problems.
