After due consideration there may have been an episode or two where a Klingon
battle cruiser is seen to fire a few rounds of whatever that looked more like
the Enterprises Photon Torpedos.

Yes Khan was wearing the insignia on Ceti Alpha 5.  And if he fashioned it
from scrap he did a real good job.
