Over Tardis (better known as Thanksgiving) weekend, the Chicago Tribune 
published an interview with JNT in thier Friday weekend section.  I 
neglected saving it, so these aren't exact quotes, but he mentioned the 
rumors that this coming season was a trial or shortened season, and called
them absolute rubbish.  He said the show was in absolutely no trouble, that
the hiatus was purely financial handwaving by the BBC, and it would 
actually serve to strengthen the show because it gave him time to review
the scripts, rather than being forced to choose the scripts for the next
season while producing the current one, like he usually is.  If we don't
know the truth, at least we know what they want us to believe.
